The Ligo Haibun Challenge – Flower

Apart

She lives in a country, which has six months of darkness. Though she is accustomed to nights, she yearns for the sun. The dim street lamp illuminates the garden, from where a lone rose stands out. While admiring the rose, she hopes it would live to see the sunlight.

Your unmatched glow

Lights the darkest of nights

I pray you live forever

This was written for the ligo haibun challenge.

Flower of Joy

Beauty not only resides

in sprightly brightness

and flashing colours

Look at this new blossom

of delicate petals

and pale splendour

Any heart that dances

to the rhythm of animated glow

would be enveloped in soft music

and be cheered with unknown warmth

while glancing at this flower of joy

Chosen Time

The queen of flowers

Unfolds her petals with a flourish

Open to the gentle warmth

Shying away from rain

She shivers from cold

Shrinking from winter

Also withering from summer

She seeks slight breeze

and longs for a mild sun

The early day is her chosen time

A Gift

Do not give your lover a diamond ring

It would fuel her greed

making her ask for more

Do not give her expensive gadgets

She might frown and say,

‘That was not so romantic’

Do not give her a watch

She might not like the model

Do not go for luxurious clothes either

She may eye them critically

Just try giving her a single rose

Bring out the creativity in her

And rekindle the innocence

It may mean nothing to you,

but a lot to her

Beauty lies in simplicity

And remember! A rose is never out of fashion

The Blue Rose

It was a sprightly day in June

and a blue rose blossomed in my garden

amidst full red roses

The tender blue rose

had dangerous thorns,

which pricked at the slightest touch

It survived the spring and the fall

and looked as silky

as the day on which it was born

One sunny day

it was suddenly gone

We looked all over the ground,

the walls and even in the next garden,

but it was not to be seen

and we never had a blue rose again

Standing for Peace

These white roses have blossomed

gracefully amidst thorns and barren stems

to show that peace can exist in conflict.

A pleasant new voice in a world

filled with noisy commotion.

These roses show that bright hope

can arise amongst dark despair

and optimism lives

even in the midst of turmoil

Call of Destiny

The butterfly soared afar

Giving a slip to the boy with the jar

He barely escaped the eyes of a woman

who was picking butterflies for fancy and fun

Though attracted by the fireplace

A spark alerted the butterfly to find a new place

And he could have drowned in the fountain of colours

But for his quick thinking,

Which saved him from dangerous adventures

Finally he perched on a red-blood rose

Unable to resist her fragrance and poise

Now he heard the call of destiny

As a sharp thorn pricked his wings

Pink Beauty

The pink beauty graces the still pond

With its shy appeal

The Lotus has a fragrance,

Pure and unique

Unlike the splendid rose

Or the enticing Jasmine

Do you want access to the Lotus?

Then you have to enter murky water

Nothing valuable comes your way

Unless you soil your legs

Or give your heart to it

Snatched Away

I blossomed with my sister

In the darkness of a moonless night

Walked in a young man next day

He admired and caressed her

She blushed and spread her petals in pleasure

He took an image of her

She smiled and posed for him

And she waited expectantly

When he abruptly plucked her

From the mother stem

The entire bush shook with grief

And he mistook my tears for dewdrops

We shrivelled as he just walked away

Leaving us to mourn her loss

I Wish…

I wish I were a fresh rose,

Which proudly blossomed yesterday

Swarmed by thirsty bees

Loved by all

What is it to live a hundred years?

Ignored and uncared for

Than to a live a few hours

And wither away

Admired and loved by all
